Didnt include the native shopping trolley. Disappointing
Tried that myself. Trout died. Everything thing else grew too fast and big. I caught my fry in the canal with a net.
Bought bitterling and they did ok for a while until the other fish killed them.

there is a fantastic aquarium with native species at Windermere, one of the few open to the public with both freshwater and saltwater native species.

I've kept many over the years including species such as brown trout, brook trout, graylings and burbots. all of them i sourced from nature. the easiest way to get small fish, is to wait for fall and go during night with a flashlight and a net with long handle..

I've kept indigenous fish for many years, (I'm 71), both fresh and marine. A shoal of small perch are lovely, but you can't keep anything else in there. Pike are boring as they just stay still, as I'm sure you know. I have a big shoal of minnows in my pond, almost always in breeding colours, and they breed some years; but the water temperature in the summer makes the pond feel like a hot bath. Yet they seem happy, they certainly sit in the warm, shallow water in rivers and ponds.

I'd love to see a stickleback tank with at least a few and perhaps a longer-form video if you could get them to breed, as their courting process is super cool! More short form vids on how this tank goes would be just as appreciated- I love your content, thank you for the work you do and share for us all to enjoy ☺

I had a tank of sticklebacks about 30 years ago. Unfortunately I also had a dragonfly nymph.😓
Used to have 4 native tanks back in Ukraine. One with lake fish, one with river fish, one for depth dwelling spices and one for pike specifically
Hi! Great video! This might be an odd question but do you reckon stone loaches are compatible with amphibians in wildlife ponds? I noticed they exist in entirely different spaces in the pond. I also read they eat mostly worms and crustaceans. Do you think they'd harm tadpoles or frogspawn?
I see miller's thumbs in our local brook regularly. There's Bitterling too, swimming amongst the Dace and Chub.
My brother caught sticklebacks and kept them in an aquarium when we were kids, he got some water bettles as well, so far back, but they seemed to have survived reasonably well.
Great video. I havent seen bullheads since i was a kid. It used to seem like rivers were more full of life back then.

Flash back to my childhood! Haha I used to keep a 4ft tank with tench, crucian, a small common, roach and Rudd, not to mention the pond and containers in the garden with, stickle backs, bull heads, stone loach, newts and frogs. Love it thanks for bringing back the good memories!

I have stickle backs in a tropical tank been in there for months with large fantails a black molly bully, a golden danio bully & African grey frog all been getting on fine for months but has it’s coming up to breeding season for stickle backs I’m building them there own eco system 😊

All Stone loach I've kept have been bullies spoiling the collection, I had keep them separate.

yea stickle backs are super aggressive. they'll even attack red none living things. their like bulls but they actually attack red things lol
