Shiny/reflective props are annoying, but they also forced me to look closely at the nature of a reflection. When your food photography props are very reflective, it can be frustrating because they can often reflect unwanted and distracting elements in your photos. In this video, I discuss why reflections are the way they are and some ways I’ve learned to deal with them.
This isn’t an exhaustive analysis on the physics of reflections nor do I claim to be an expert on this, but the behavior of light is without a doubt the most fascinating aspect of photography for me and I simply want to share what I learn. Hopefully what I find, helps you make informative problem-solving decisions when dealing with annoying reflections in your photography.

Thank you. Another question: how to remove the refections on an oven door with high-goss glass window? If the oven door is opened and closed during video shooting, it will reflects the surroundings.

Very useful. I do product shoot and get annoyed with reflections specially with sunglasses and shiny surface. I use big diffuser screen in front but still get the reflection. Now will try out with your this guidance. Let c the results 🙂🙃
Hello! A quick question : if the subject itself is shiny, for example a cake with a mirror glaze, should we also need to avoid those reflections by manipulating the light source as you did in the video? Thanks for your channel!

Hi, I'm a newbie. I have a problem: myself and my camera are reflected into the eyes of my talents. Eyes are reflective and curved… Nevertheless, I saw many times fashion photographers shooting their talents outdoor, in a non-controlled ambient, and I never noticed the reflections of the operator in their talent's eyes. How can it be possible? For example, I never saw the operator reflection in the eyes of an actor in a feature film. How can it be possible? Thanks
