In this video, photographer Krista Michaels takes you through the Downtown Aquarium in Denver, Colorado, and photographs all of the sea creatures using a Canon New F-1 (F-1N) loaded with Kodak Portra 400 35mm film.
I rated the Kodak Portra 400 at ISO 1600, and developed normally. The colors of Portra 400 are mesmerizing to me, and it has much more latitude than meets the eye! It’s probably my most-used color film, and it has quite a few different looks, depending upon how one decides to shoot it, and where. 🙂
Every photograph in this video was taken using the Canon FD 85mm f/1.2 L lens mounted onto the Canon New F-1 camera. The rendition of the images from this lens really speaks to me, and I can imagine that, going into the future, I will be using it on many more occasions.

Gorgeous photos! I love the colors that Portra gave in a lot of those aquarium shots. The Canon F-1 is such a fun, rock-solid camera to use! It's one of my personal favorites, and it's never let me down. Great video!
Kind of grainy but the colors still look nice for 2 stop pushing
I'm just curious about why photographers such as yourself shoot on film in this digital age? Is it a preference of feeling / look… or is the quality actually better with film?
