You should get a lense that zooms in much more
thanks for the tips I will make sure to put them to use the next time I go to an aquarium it was birds and fish that got me into photography in the first place but I use to just take pictures on my phone with a filter on I bought my first camera last year on Black Friday it's a kodak pixpro AZ401 bridge it's a good solid camera but some days I feel like it don't wanna work hopefully some of these tips should help

I watched your video and then took my Nikon D7100 with 18-250mm lens to the National Aquarium in DC. I tried out your settings including f/5.6, ISO 400, no flash, M mode, no tripod (this time) The best I could get was 1/20 sec…I made close to 200 pictures and just about 25 came out OK, but even those where not great! How can I increase the sharpness of the pictures? At the National Aquarium there is practically no light except for the light in the tanks!

Hey buddy I did like you said, using my Nikon D80 with a 18-135 lens. At 135, f/5.6-11.0 the pictures came out great. I got about 1 out of 10 that were awesome. I have a 100 great pics of my fish now. Thanks so much for the tutorial. You da' Man 🙂

Went to a Jellyfish exhibit recently. I wish I would have seen this video before I did. I was trying to manually focus the photos and got few fish in focus

Hi, the video was aimed at beginners. Shooting in RAW then using editing software was not the focus of the video, I was just trying to get the basics over.
I might make another video covering those aspects.
Thanks for the vid but i was just wondering why not shoot in raw so that you can have the best quality image which you can tweak maybe in lightroom or photoshop.
@AquaStudent Hi mate, I left the lights on so I could be seen on camera 🙂
I only have the tank lights on when I'm taking pictures. You'll have to let me know when you've taken some pictures with your D5000.

Awesome video! I plan on trying out these settings with my Nikon D5000 the next time I take some shots.
Why don't you turn the room lights off? There's less reflections from objects in the room so you get just images of the tank/fish not a foreground mist of yourself (if that makes any sense).

@MySheena27 If the other cichlid is very aggressive all the time and is causing the tank mates loads of stress I would remove it TBH

How are all the fry
Nice set of videos, recently subscribed to your channel. What type of powerhead is that running is your tank? Or is that a filter outlet? I just got an AquaClear 30 powerhead, seems okay, but a little noisy with the aeration feature turned on.
here's an interesting concept- what effect does color have on the fishes' behavior? I plan to conduct an experiment with a broken dslr covered in light tan masking tape. If the outcome is any different at all, I don't know if it would be that the lighter color is less threatening, or that it is simply harder for the fish to see. I also plant to do one with the lens front uncovered to see if that has any different effect. In the meantime, leaving a camera close to the tank also helps. great vid!

@ryanmartin136 Little tip – leave a coat on the back of a chair and put the chair close to the tank when you're not about.
Thats wot i do then. u think if i get close to me tank every other day for a week or so they b a bit less shy so i can get sum boss pics like ur ones.
