In todays video I’m going to show you how to attach the Backscatter +15 Macromate Mini lens to the AcePro2.
Now that we can attach this small and economical macro lens to not only GoPro but the Insta360 AcePro 2 we can take the advantage of the AcePro2 awesome clarity zoom and capture some great underwater macro videos and photos.
To try and be clear on sizes as I don’t want your expectations to be to high. These are guesses on size to give you an idea of what is possible so dont quote me on it. The Nudibranch at 5:51 is about 2.5cm, the one at 6:20 is about 6cm and the one at 6:57 is about 1cm.
I will show you my initial test shots and explain what hardware is required. I will be doing a full video with my recommended settings so please SUBSCRIBE.

Thanks for this! Perfect timing! I’m in French Polynesia and shot today with a 2 camera rig. It includes the AP2 with the UWL-03 and my original Ace Pro with the Macromate mini. They fit well side by side in the Backscatter tray with arch, and I have two Sola lights mounted to flex arms. It allowed me to switch between wide and macro quickly and if I adjust one camera slightly to shoot a little off center, I think I can get simultaneous wide and macro of the same subject. Still playing with it, but very promising so far. Thanks again for sharing this footage!
can I do this with my gopro 13? honestly don't like the flip system… the lenses (macromate + wide angled lens) are always flailing about
So amazing the quality we can achieve nowadays vs even just 40 years ago. For just a few hundred bucks you can capture some world class images.

Great video, I look forward to your up and coming videos . I have a question for you . I watch a video where the AOI uwl 3 was used with the Insta Pro 2 . The camera was in dive mode and it picked up the edges of the lens. Have you experienced this ?

Thanks Sean for this vide. You said you can get a little more macro on Insta360 than GoPro. Why is this? Minimum focus, clarity zoom, etc? I am not familiar with clarity zoom on the Insta360.
Excellent! Going to have to get the adapters now. I called Backscatter on this 55mm to QR idea right as the wide lens came out. They had no idea or plans to make it then. So happy and only made sense to make it.
I’d imagine all this is true with the AcePro 1 as well
Great video! Are you basically using underwater mode , then clarity zoom when using the macro lens? . Hopefully you can compare that one with the ucl-03. The macromate mini plus adapter is only 50 usd cheaper than the ucl-03, here where I live.
