This week we’re visiting the Glen Echo Park Aquarium to check out a truly unique setup—an Oyster Reef tank. This tank simulates what the Chesapeake Bay would have looked like prior to the industrial revolution. Today less than 2% of the oyster population remains, but historically oysters have been a critical part of the estuary habitat.
We’ll see the feeding habits of the oyster and some of the inhabitants of an oyster reef. We’ll get an up-close look at mummichogs, sheepsheads, and spider crabs to list a few.

What kind of food do you give to your oyster?
I'm doing the same thing on a much smaller scale for the Texas coast. We have a lot of oyster reefs too. I'd like more info on how much and how often they feed the phyto. There's not a lot of info on it online

Awesome!! 👍I love North American native tanks! The salt/brackish ones are especially cool since you don't see them much. I've kept several freshwater natives such as sunfish, catfish, shiners, white perch, and last but definitely not least a Bass. The bass was awesome, just got too big. Now I'm thinking about putting some shiners/minnows in my 20 with the goldfish, rosy red minnows, and pictus cat. Currently I only have two native fish. A white perch and a shiner, both in my fish pond.
Can you breed the oysters and then sell them?

This is an amazing video and that oyster reef is incredible. This was very informative. Everyone is so concerned about the coral reefs (and rightly so) but very little people are aware of the importance of these reefs and the critical part they play in the ecosystem. It's tragic to see them on such a rapid decline and the fragile state they're now in! Thank you for posting this! Did you make part two that shows the building of this reef that you mention at the end of this video? I couldn't find it. Can you provide the video link if available? Thank you again!
Where can u get the spider crabs from?

What caught my attention were the banded killifish. Because i have a small school of them in my freshwater tank that I caught off the beach in the east coast of canada.

Awesome tank, I am down south on Galveston Bay, It amazes me how similar we are to Chesapeake bay. In both history and biology.
I have a brackish tank as well, All native caught, 1 Frill fin Goby, 1 naked Goby, 1 skillet fish, 1 oyster toadfish.
