In today’s behind the scenes video, I attempt to take some photographs in a pool without using an underwater housing. Instead, I’m going to be shooting a Nikon D850 DSLR camera inside a 10 gallon fish tank. This will allow me to capture images both underwater and above water at the same time while also showing the water line that separates the two halves of the image.

For lighting gear, I’m using the new Westcott FJ400 strobes with the Westcott 26″ Rapidbox softbox. These two strobes are connected wirelessly with the Westcott FJ-X2m universal radio trigger. Because this flash system is both wireless and battery operated, I can easily get the lights in the exact location I need while also maintaining a safe working environment where water is involved.

Our model for the day is former Miss Puerto Rico Earth, Krystal Xamairy. In this shoot, she is wearing a Body Glove rashguard.

In the second half of this photography tutorial, I process and edit my favorite photo in ACDsee’s Photo Studio Professional 2020. Using just a few sliders and adjustments, I’m able to take a raw file straight out of camera and turn it into a final polished image ready for publication.

I've found the following helpful while doing this type of setup..

Use Rainex on the interior and exterior of the glass. It will shed water much more quickly /cleanly and prevent any fogging issues.

Use duvateen spray mounted to sides and back of the aquarium. It helps eliminate reflections inside the housing.

I think the pictures you captured were incredible.

Are you guys ok? No new video in more than a month. I'm starting to worry.

I m dissapointed. Its literally 6 minutes of actual shooting and 20 minutes of commercial for mediocre software. The healing brush on the forehead? jesus that was bad processing i mean even he made a funny face when he saw how it works. I kinda feel clickbaited tbh.

I like the natural light photo and also the photos with flash. Both good. The model is very beautiful.

Beautiful, love the pics. The effect works best when her body lines up. I do think you could get the “under water” effect in photoshop, without the risk for your camera.

Shooting under the waterline makes objects @ 1/3 larger and 1/3 closer.
My approach would be to shoot a little wider, and duplicate the lower section, and scale down the model.
This would allow you to re-align the two images. Just my 2 cents.

Wow, what a blast from the past 😀 I loved ACDSee way back in the late 90s as a photo-software. I don't remember why I stopped using it, I think it was because I was starting using Photoshop instead because of the school was using it. This brought back some memories :). Great video!

Photo looks good, software looks average. The retouching tools are very basic and unprofessional in my opinion. Fixing specular highlights with a spot removal tool is ridiculous.

no good software I think. Adobe is so much better!

These fish tank shoots always frighten me. So much can go wrong so quickly with them… especially while kneeling on an underwater table! Look at an Outex housing. It has room for a transmitter like you're using, very affordable and has optional dome port.

Great tip! However thats too much going on to do by yourself. The only way this is worth it is if you have a team & shooting for a publication! Worrying about the lighting and trying to wrestle with the aquarium takes too much attention away from the model, so you gotta have some help. Again, I think this is a highly useful tip above all.

Great experiment I have however really tried to like these photos, they just don’t do anything for me. I think a good reflection off the water would have done better.

04:54 Try applying some wax as a layer on glass panel as this will help the water drops to simply slide and this will avoid water drops staying there on glass surface for long there!

I only wish more people could progress from this compulsion to micro tweak people's bodies even this much.
Looked just as beautiful with her jaw, arm, waist as they were.
It's just a negative because of the psychological affects this kinda neurotic "fixing" has on most women and girls, especially, growing up inundated with this considered necessary, EVEN for the most beautiful models. That makes it not worth it in my opinion.
Obviously defining any fine line is pretty subjective, and glare on a forehead texture maybe is worth removing. The general principle that guides any touchups I'll do is to not alter anything about someone that isn't just temporary (within that week) like a zit, or distracting fly away hairs.
